I don't know about you guys, but I'm a movie-a-holic and I watch and buy a lot of them.
So, I was wondering what is the best movie you ever watched or which one would you recommend and why?

I am a "movie-a-holic" too, but also like series. Because there's a wide range, please tell me what genres you like the most and I will try to remember the jewels. But I expect some advice too, because good movies getting rare more and more. I like Fantasy, SciFi and Horror (the psycho horror, not just splatter orgies). I always tell people who don't like that unrealistic genres: You really think movies set in the presence or history are more realistic? (Exceptions confirm the rule) I really love movies with the "mindfuck" effect, no matter what setting build around the story - for example "Life of Pi", not just nice pictures, also an explanation for the existence of religion I think.

Also good:
Shutter Island
Das Gesetz der Rache (Law Abiding Citizen)
Chihiros Reise ins Zauberland (Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi)

I'm not really a fantasy guy myself, so don't really like Lord of the Rings and movies like that. Definitely not a horror guy although I do like some movies that come very close to being one. I do like Science Fiction, but definitely not all of it (although I do watch most of it). Think 'Minority Report' but not Star Wars. I am more a thriller kind of guy. Movies like 'The Usual Suspect' and 'Pulp Fiction'. But also non fiction movies like 'Machine Gun Preacher' and 'Citade de Dues' (City of God) I like very much. That last one being probably in my top 10 of movies.

A few more recent movies I liked very much are 'The Imitation Game' about Alan Turing and 'The Theory of Everything' about Stephen Hawking.

There are of course movies in other genres I also like, like 'The Lego Movie' (Everything is awesome !!) :).

Other then that I do watch nearly everything and some are pretty entertaining, but there is a big difference in my view in being entertaining and being a good movie.

I do watch a lot of series as well and with those I watch a lot. In the pasted I liked 'Numb3rs' and 'NCIS', but also 'Lie to Me' and 'House'. Recently started to watch all the old episodes of the 'X-files' again, which are still good even though they are 20 years old or so.

Going by the ratings I give on Netflix, there are a lot of 4 start movies and series, but just a few 5 stars, which is precicely the difference between entertaining and a very good movie.

Did not see 'Law Abiding Citizen' but will try and see it, looks pretty good.
Don't think I saw 'Shutter Island' and will also go and watch that.
'Chihiros Reise ins Zauberland' does not look like my kind of movie.

Soooo, better late than never I reply. I watch the most SciFi movies too, but there are many many sh.. SciFi-Movies out there. If you don't watch, you can't find out. I dont give to much about reviews. Making SciFi movies is expensive. Money (for the set) isn't everything, but to make the world/universe you definitively need a good basic budget. Most of them just get the "entertainment award", but some can blow your mind. Star Wars is special, because I grow up with it. I am very sceptical about the Disney-Star-Wars future. I'll watch them, even it is just for entertainment purposes.

Minority Report was good, even if I dont like Tommy.

The Imitation Game - added to my list. Encrytion is always interessting ;)
Lego...I watched Lego Batman, it was funny. I watch many animation movies, for example Baymax, Final Fantasy. The Appleseed movies were great.
I saw "The Theory of Everything" and liked it. I am science guy. Dont want to condemn religious people, but I hope religion will become a more privat thing for future generations - not that political relevant like in these days.

Series: X-Files...that was long ago. Maybe one day I will start watching again. House is great - nothing more to say.

'Chihiros Reise ins Zauberland' looks like a kiddie movie, but there is a serious theme between the frames - prostitution.
Many japanese manga movies have a serious background.

Now some SciFi movies I watched (with rating):
Blade Runner (5 Stars) - did you know that Blade Runner belongs to the "Alien"-Universe?
Matrix (3 Stars) - First Movie was a surprise, after that just entertainment
Transcendence (2 Stars) - mehh, I expected to much
Cloud Atlas (4 Stars) - every little thing we do today can have epic consequences, think about it
Riddick (3 Stars for the complete universe) - nice entertainment, not more
The Zero Theorem (3 Stars) - sad guy
A.I. (4 Stars) - the old question, what defines life
I am Legend (3 Stars) - ok, but to much of that stuff today
Starship Troopers (3 Stars for the complete universe) - brain off, spatter on ;)
Alien & Predator (4 Stars for the complete universe) - some bad movies, but I like the dark atmosphere
Star Trek (2 Stars for the complete universe) - the new movies are ok, not like the pyjama parties in the past
Lucy (3 Stars) - a movie you will only watch one time, but ok
Earth to echo (2 Stars) - E.T. style
Super 8 (2 Stars) - E.T. style, too. Better than "earth to echo"
The Signal (3 Stars) - one time entertainment

I have to do some work now...more will follow later

I like a large variety of movies, but I don't particularly gravitate towards horror movies unless they have an original and unique story. Like most people, I am a fan of humorous comedy movies. Action and adventure is of course pleasing as well. Personally I do not have a specific preference for movies so long as the movie is interesting and enjoyable. People judge me all the time for this one, but I shall be honest. I see Disney movies all the time, and sometimes even "chick flicks" because I find them interesting.

I've seen Frozen, Tangled, Big Hero 6 and others (only mentioning the more recent/popular ones). "Into The Woods" was a darker Disney movie and was directed pretty well. I enjoyed that one thoroughly seeing some very familiar faces including Anna Kendrick (most known for her roles in the "Pitch Perfect" series and "Twilight" series, plus her twitter seeing as she is acts like a normal person rather than a celebrity), and James Cordon from the Late Late Show.

Action movies are fun to watch, but I don't like those that are just action and no plot. One that most people enjoy would have to be the Avengers series. It's enjoyable and definitely has its share of action and adventure.
Another I would like to point out is "The Imitation Game". It was a drama and some sort of action and was quite historically accurate. It was nice to watch because it really did pique my interest. The whole entire idea of it was a great one! Plus, Cumberbatch is a good actor as well!

I've recently seen the movie "Pitch Perfect 2" sequel to the original, "Pitch Perfect". It's a movie that is said to be for women, but it's enjoyable for anyone. The comedy is quite hilarious and there's an interesting plot that has music played into it. I, myself, am a fan of many types and genres of music so this was an interesting movie in my perspective.

Hi,
Big Hero 6 = Baymax. Crazy germans translate english movie titels to other english movie titels. Frozen was really great, it makes my flesh crawl when Elsa (dont know if the name is the same or maybe localized) build her ice castle.

Comedy of course is one of the most important genres. But with niveau please. Some movies are just yukky. I never saw Pitch Perfect or Pitch Perfect 2. I'll give them a chance. "Into The Woods" looks awesome. I saw "Maleficent". I think it has a interresting piont of view to this old fable. Yes, its out! I watch Disney, too. But I dont thinks Disny is perfect for kids. Almost every Disney movie have a bad guy. I dont like this good & bad thing. In reality there is no real good & bad fraction. Generalisation is always wrong.

Yesterday I started watching "Exodus". I'll report.

Series: Waiting for new content for "The Walking Dead" and "Game of Thrones". Great completet series were "Breaking Bad", "Dexter", "The IT Crowd", "Battlestar Galactica" (with "Caprica", Caprica was hmmm...background info) and "Lost" (I dont like the Lost end).

Ok, I runnin out of time. See ya

@Cryovus
The Walking Dead is a great series. The spin-off series will premier in America during the month of August and I'm so excited to see if it's just as interesting as the main series. It takes place in California/West Side of the US and is timed during the very very early age of the outbreak. I'll report back on it once it returns, no spoilers for any other fans hopefully.

I didn't know there's a spin-off. Good news. I see a lot of potential with that place and time setting. More action, less tramping thru forests. It seem now the success brought the money for more epic scenarios.

Ok promised to report about "Exodus". What should I say...I fallen asleep. Maybe because the story is well known (Egypt, Moses &&&).

The statement in the Cube Movies (I've seen them all), that it is possible to build something like the cube without the workers knowing what they actually build, seems to be unrealistic, but in fact things like that happen for real.
